Ipanema: A Review Reconsidered

A lot of readers expressed disagreement with my original assessment of Ipanema.

In the interest of stepping outside of my usual box and/or growing up, I am opening an invitation to my various friends who sing Ipanema's praises to call me next time you're heading over there and I'll give it another shot.

Also - as a caveat, I did eat there during the dinner hour and it was good food, so my original review did not extend to my dining experience.

Lastly, please recommend what type of book I should bring to read while I'm drinking. Fiction? Non-fiction? Poetry?

That last part looks like an "Ask Brett" type of question. Plus you didn't really mention if your book is to keep people away, or to pique the interest of strangers and their desire to approach you. You can't judge a book by its cover but you can judge the reader by their book!

Me, I'd say buy a moleskine and with your best poker face, stare too long (just until the point where the awkwardness sets in) and then scrawl and doodle shit in your book, stare, doodle. If someone approaches you, slam it shut and cross both arms over it, and greet the person with a smile. If not, you're doing a great job creeping someone out or making them feel like they're really important and being drawn by an art student.

I'm kind of only good at identifying and imagining levels of uncomfortable and awkward situations and I kind of find them funnier than anything else in the world. So long as it doesn't involve getting killed or anything, it's funny.

So... that's the type of book I'd recommend you bring along. Yep.

Don't take a book. Converse with friends because it's actually possible at Ipa.

I'll go with you. You're going to love it.
