self-improvement

if you've been a regular reader of this blog, one of the common themes is trying to find ways to step up my "life" game. anyone who's had a drunken rooftop conversation with me over the past few months knows that i'm trying to rid myself of this vague sense of dissatisfaction that has been plaguing me for a while now.

here i am, on the verge of my 28th birthday.. it's time to start taking action. (september 18th - prepare yourselves)

as a birthday gift to myself via my parent's birthday check, i have enrolled myself in a fall class at the visual arts center of richmond. the class is an intro to adobe photoshop cs / illustrator. i've always had an eye for graphic design, but never the actual skills. i can poke around in photoshop to do basic things, but i really want to learn a lot more.

i don't think this class is going to necessarily teach me a whole lot, but i hope that it gives me a solid foundation from which i can experiment and play around and hopefully become a little better at both programs.

it could help me career-wise, just to be more knowledgeable with the programs in general, but my love for creating flyers and lolcats and other assorted online goodies should make it a lot more valuable to my personal life.

needless to say, doing anything in the name of self-improvement definitely should help with that vague dissatisfaction issue. it is something to look forward to and something that should help me in the long-run.

wish me luck!

congrats! the classes i had in college were hit or miss if the content was presented in an interesting way (versus wanting to inflict bodily harm*) so i hope it's a great experience for you! may i recommend that if you love the classes and decide to independently invest in the overpriced software you wait until the newest version? i heard it's good. (you probably know people who know more about this new development than i do, so never mind.)

*usually those nights ended with me leaving early and going to Chipotle...no one was ever harmed...

Yay! Great stuff.

And wow, our entries are "on the same page" today, (I swear I didn't look at yours until after publishing mine!)

Your birthday coincides with Nas' encore performance at my Toad's. Obviously, the stars have aligned themselves in some sort of ridiculous way.

As nice as it is to know I'm not the only one currently on this sinking boat, I hope the class leaves you satisfied and no longer drowning in dissatisfaction. Maybe I'll get my ass in gear and finally finish this independent study so they can give me my Masters. If all goes well, we'll both be better educated and content by the time autumn rolls around!
