freedom week has begun!

sorry for the delay on the freedom week update. obviously, i've been busy being so FREE. i finally found myself with some time to kill. i'm in a strangely weird introspective mood. brandi has tasked me with putting together some SUPER MELLOW music for her new job at the spa. she can't handle the nature zen sounds, etc. so i told her i'd put together some stuff i had. in the process, i'm listening to this stuff and it's making my head spin a little.

friday

the last day of work was bittersweet, but also a lot of fun. i said my goodbyes to everyone and they gave me a nice little send-off lunch. friday night we kicked off the inaugural night by going to the RVA 4-year anniversary party. i had a great time seeing friends and dancing it up.

saturday

saturday was the first FULL day of freedom, and we wasted no time getting awesome. bill and i enjoyed a delicious brunch at black sheep and then drove to meet our friends at the valentine history center. there we met chris, tess, and dan, who were our partners in crime for the civil war history bus tour. as soon as we boarded the bus, and i saw five seats across the back row, i knew it was meant to be. the tour itself was pretty cool. i definitely saw and learned a few things i didn't know before. it was definitely an introductory tour, meaning that i think i'll have to revisit most of the stops to really get the full experience. i think the highlight for me was seeing the cold harbor battlefield and seeing the trenches that the soldiers had dug 148 years ago still existing today. tess would argue that my highlight was finding the coke machine at the tredegar iron works and buying a diet coke. she's right, i was pretty excited.

here are some pics by the lovely tess:

following the civil war amazingness, we all went to a delicious dinner at tarrants. every time i go there, i make a mental note to return again soon because their menu is extensive and the food is usually really good.

after dinner, we started preparing for the return of slanted & enchanted, the indie pop dance night started by kenneth and myself. it got off to a slow start, but was in full dance party mode by the end of the night. a lot of friends came out and i really had a good time. i have so much fun playing music and DJing. i have no idea what i'm doing half the time, but i love it.

sunday

in order to keep the full momentum of the awesomeness of freedom week, i kicked things off with a delicious ipanema brunch with brandi, bill and caitlyn. i gotta say - they really kicked things up with their new brunch menu. it is AMAZINGLY good. after brunch, i took a nap and started plotting some of my exciting weekday activities for freedom week. then i got a call from kenny to go to verryberry. never one to turn down frozen yogurt, i gladly accepted. following verryberry, kenny and i set to work on a secret musical project we've been kicking around. it's nothing serious, but it's just a song we've had in our brains and we wanted to see if we could figure out garage band and actually come up with something cool. we got the initial skeleton of things worked out, but we have a long way to go. after bedroom recording, we headed off to see "he's just not that into you" at the byrd theatre. i thought it was great, but i think it was more my mood and nothing to do with the actual quality of the movie. plus, i only paid $2, so how could i be disappointed?

monday

so now i'm here blogging. it's late and i am gonna get to bed. i have a full plate of errands to run. passport photos! bills to pay! library cards to get! and i have to go to the gym, because i promised myself i'd use this week to kickstart getting back into the habit of going to the gym regularly. i've been slacking off in recent weeks.

needless to say, without a job, you can be sure that i'll be blogging quite a bit. FREEDOM WEEK!

Saturday was AWESOME. And I'm glad you liked Ipanema's brunch! We will definitely be seeing you there sometimes.
