end of an era

so today is my last day as the front desk receptionist at the agency.

when i was hired back, it was under the assumption that i would return to account work in short order, once the right opening became available. finally, after four months and a one-month bike accident vacation, i'm making that transition on monday.

barring any unforeseen circumstances, this will hopefully be my last day as a receptionist ever again. after years of temping during college and while being in bands, i can honestly say i've been a receptionist for at least 20-30 companies in the last 10 years. insane.

i'm stoked for the new challenges. this position is definitely going to kick my ass for a while until i get the hang of it, but i'm really excited to get back to the work that i was brought on to do.

things i will miss about being a receptionist:

- knowing all the behind-the-scenes drama at your company
- ridiculous amounts of time for internet surfing
- circumventing your company's internet blocker
- never too busy for an hour lunch
- thinking of creative ways to answer the phone
- fucking with telemarketers

things i will not miss about being a receptionist:

- non-stop telemarketers
- sorting the mail
- condescending people
- receptionist pay grade

so the new job starts monday. i have a feeling i'm going to be hitting the ground running, so the blog may have to be relegated to after-work hours, but i'm sure i will find the time to shoot off an entry or two.

now that i've officially posted this blog, just watch me get my ass fired or laid off and i start temping again. and then i'll secretly go back and delete this entry so i won't feel quite so embarrassed.
