Really Fucking Irritating

RFIs and RFPs are the bane of any low-level marketing agency employee's existence.

they stand for request-for-information or request-for-proposal respectively and it's basically an agency's chance to pitch new business to a new client.

they are hell because inevitably, and i mean every SINGLE fucking time, you're scrambling at the last possible second to make the UPS drop in time to get it overnighted to Bob Corporate Guy who made the deadline.

this time, it's a pitch i'm not working on. but i could sense something was wrong when i got an ichat yesterday from a co-worker. do you think you could help us get some disks burned for an RFI on friday? sure, i said. no problem.

last night i got an "are you ready for tomorrow?" e-mail from the same co-worker.

okay, now my red flags are up. just what the hell did i sign up for?

needless to day, all day long today i've been getting regular updates like "we're almost done, we're almost ready!" and yet, here i am at 5:15pm on a friday and i don't have shit.

not to mention, the burning disks now turned into burning disks and making color copies of a 60-page document and binding five copies.

did i mention it's 5:15pm on a friday?

it might be different if i'd been slaving over this RFI for days and it actually meant something to me. but i am a pinch hitter. i was called in at the last minute because i happen to work at an office with a color copier and a UPS machine. score.

so now here i am. i don't have the strength to start any of my other assignments, so i'm just sitting here killing time, waiting for an RFI.

here is a top 5 list of things to do while waiting for an RFI on a friday night:

5) mentally map out all the UPS dropboxes by distance and pickup-time, knowing you will miss the first few inevitably.
4) cry
3) sing loudly because you're the only person left in the office
2) play with the binding machine, contemplate writing and binding your own children's book

and the number one thing to do while waiting for an RFI?!

1) BLOG ABOUT IT! YAAAAAAAAAAH!
