who's watching the watchmen?

so i went and saw the watchmen tonight. the night was quickly turning into one of those nights where everyone was texting everyone asking what was going on and nothing was actually going on. the idea of ending up in a bar, sitting in a booth, half-heartedly drinking beers... i just didn't want to go there.

so i checked movie times, drove to the theatre, and watched a dorky superhero movie by myself.

and it was awesome.

i know enough about the watchmen to know that it is the holy grail of graphic novels. and the fanboys who geek out about it are deadly serious. and i also knew the story was pretty complex. so a few weeks back, ian totally hooked me up with a cheap copy from his comic book store. i read it pretty quickly, over the course of a few days, and really liked it. this definitely isn't your average comic book - lots of heavy, interesting ideas and themes.

so anyway, i think i totally nailed it going into the movie tonight. i had only just recently read the graphic novel, so i wasn't some die-hard fanboy bound to be disappointed.. but i also wasn't going into the story blind, which i think would have been a little confusing. i also got to enjoy all the little nuances and things that were thrown into the movie from the graphic novel.

all in all, i thought it was a really fun dark superhero movie.

but honestly, more than anything, i think i just really enjoyed being able to step out of my brain for almost three hours and just enjoy going to the movies.

perfect night.

Yo ain't nothing wrong with going to the movies by yourself. Sometimes that's just how you have to roll. I went today knowing virtually nothing about the story at all so every twist was new to me and I as way into it. Call me crazy but I like seeing the movie first. That way I enjoy the movie and then I can enjoying finding new stuff in the book, rather than griping about what got left out of the movie.

I got to go this weekend with my brother; it was great! We laughed at totally different parts than the rest of the theater, haha.
