hello from dallas!

so i made it safe to dallas.

i'm chilling here in my hotel room. it's under 20 degrees here right now and i don't have anything more than a hoodie. it's cool though, i don't see myself spending any significant amount of time outdoors. i can tough it out here and there.

the flight was... interesting. i sat next to tyler. tyler was in 3rd grade and flying by himself to dallas to meet his dad. for a third grader, this kid was super cool. however, he was clearly quite restless and bored and proceeded to talk my ear off for the entire three-hour flight. we discussed various scenarios in which the plane might crash (not my chosen topic), what it would be like to ride a shark, and his thoughts on cowboys and indian movies. he quizzed me quite relentlessly about various facts about air travel - what do the oxygen masks do exactly? how fast did you think we are going right now?

i got a short break mid-flight where i told tyler i was taking a 15-minute nap. i told him he could wake me up if anything important happened. 15 minutes later on the dot, he woke me up to tell me the pilot announced that we were landing in 20 minutes. i suspect he made that up, since we remained on the plane for another hour and a half. however, it was all good since i had my 15-minute eyes-closed sigur ros time. i was recharged and proceeded to talk to my buddy tyler for the rest of the flight.

unfortunately, we were sitting behind this lame family. the dad was seated directly in front of tyler and since he was restless, he kept inadvertantly kicking the seat in front of him or playing with the tray which shook the seat as well. the guy turned around and kinda snapped at tyler. and then he looked at me like i was responsible for him. and i wanted to be like "DUDE. SERIOUSLY?!" have a little sympathy for what it's like to be a third grader all by himself on a plane and feeling restless. whatever. that guy was a douchebag anyway.

so anyway, we arrived safely. i told tyler he was one of the coolest kids i know and then proceeded to navigate my way out of dallas's gigantic airport. i was picked up by a rad dude named sylvester who took me to the hotel.

the hotel is nice and fancy, but perhaps the BEST perk of the hotel is the 7-11 around the corner. i saw it on the way in and my first errand was to run out to get a big gulp. i was also trying to find a razor (which i forgot), shaving cream (which i intentionally didn't bring) and toothpaste (again, forgot). i got toothpaste. people are just gonna have to handle me looking a little grizzly.

off to work. everybody stay warm!

Ah, gems of flight seating partners are few and far between but your Tyler experience totally rules! Also, hrm I never knew Texas got that cold!

if it is a "fancy" hotel (or even not-quite-so-fancy), you should be able to get a razor and shaving cream from the front desk.
